Make Plans to Spend Quality Time with Your Mum This Mother's Day

Can you believe it? Mother's Day is just around the corner? If you want to up your game and show your mum some serious love, forget about those generic gifts or cheesy cards – this year, give her the gift of making time to spend together.

So, what would your mum absolutely love to do with you?

If you have a great relationship with your mum, it’s like having your own personal cheerleader who always has your back, and spending quality time with her is a great way to show your appreciation. Plus, it's scientifically proven that hanging out with your mum makes you instantly cooler! Actually, I might have made that up; it might make her cooler, but one of you wins anyway ;)

The elephant in the room, of course, is that finding time for mum amidst our crazy busy lives can be as challenging as untangling earphones! Between work commitments, adulting struggles, and Netflix binges (I know you're guilty!), it feels like there are never enough hours in a day. On top of that, there’s her schedule to consider. She has her job, volunteering, Pilates class, golf, flower arranging (insert favorite hobby here), and all manner of other adult responsibilities too.

So, How Can We Make Sure We Make Time for Our Mums?

Keep it simple. Crucially, this does not have to cost lots of money. You don’t have to shell out for a spa weekend or city break in Europe (unless you want to). Simple pleasures and uncomplicated activities are perfect here. Whether it's baking her favorite cookies together (and sneaking a few bites), going for a leisurely stroll in the park, or attending a fun event, these activities create memories that will have you both laughing and crying (happy tears, of course!). Just be prepared for some friendly competition during board game nights – mums are surprisingly competitive!

I love to give the gift of food (we’re all real food lovers in our family). So often, a gift for my mum will be to come over to our house, and we (me, Mr. Blue Stiggy, and my two teens) will make afternoon tea for her, making sure to bake her favorite cakes and have the sandwich fillings that we know she loves and leaving out the ones she hates (sorry dad, when it’s Father’s Day, you can have afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches).

If you’re warming to this idea of giving the gift of your time and attention this Mother’s Day, I have just the thing for you. I’ve created a ‘Mum and Me’ date planner to make it easier for you and your mum to make time to spend together doing things that you love. Here’s how it works:

The ‘Mum and Me’ date planner

1. Take some time to think of a few activities that you and your mum would enjoy doing together.

2. Write them all in the planner. There’s a space for where you’ll go, what you’ll do, who with, and when.

3. Give the planner to your mum on Mother’s Day; even better if you can do one of the planned activities for Mother’s Day too. How happy will she be when she sees all of the time that you’ve set aside to do something meaningful with her? If you like, you can also leave spaces so that she can add in events and activities that she’d like to do with you.

4. Each time you do one of the planned events, there’s also space in the planner to add in selfies and photos that you took on the day and space for both of you to write down your highlights and memories of the time that you spent together.

5. Keep planning and looking back on the wonderful memories that the two of you have created together.

Your Mum and Me Date planner can be personalized with your own text on the cover to make it even more precious to the two of you. Why don’t you message your siblings and get them involved too and create a “Mum and Us” Planner? All of my planners and books are hand-painted and hand-stitched by me. The text on the cover will be typed by Dorothy, my vintage typewriter. Now you have just the thing to make this Mother's Day one for the books! Spending quality time with your mum is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving. It brings joy not only to her but also to you. So get planning, create unforgettable memories together, and celebrate the incredible bond that you share with your mum.

Also, I want to hear all about your amazing adventures with your mum. Share them in the comments below because nothing makes me happier than hearing about all the ways you find to use my hand-made books! You can find my Mum and Me Date Planner here. Get ready to give the gift of time and create unforgettable memories with your mum. Let the adventures begin!
