Painting, typing and stitching a handmade personalised notebook
Hand made in lincolnshire
All of my notebooks are handmade in the U.K. in my solar powered countryside studio. Using traditional tools and methods that haven’t changed for centuries.
First I hand paint the design on to the cover
Then I type your personalised text on to the cover , using Dorothy, my vintage typewriter.
Next, I stitch your book together by hand using traditional linen thread.
Finally, I trim and then press your book overnight.
Personalised Notebook Gifts
My absolute fave personalised items to make are those where the words I’m asked to type are complete nonsense to me. Often they are bought as gifts so there is a really personal connection between the giver and receiver. An ‘in joke’ or phrase that only they will understand. I LOVE IT! more of those please :)

Can I use a fountain pen or watercolours in it?
Absolutely - l use fountain paper on this paper every day. it doesn’t feather or bleed. you can use a wide range of artist media too, including marker and brush pens, charcoal, pencil and even a light wash of watercolour ( I wouldn’t soak it)
How long should the personalised text be?
Your personalised notebook will be typed on a vintage typewriter which means that I can’t change the font size.
I can fit 40 characters per line including spaces. ( I may need to split some of your lines if they are over this but will always do it in a way that makes sense to the flow of the text)
3-4 lines looks great. I can fit more lines on, but it can tend to look cramped especially if they are all full 40 character lines.
If your text is a little long for this size then I also have a larger A4 size available in my shop
If you have a really long message, consider having it typed inside the book instead. you can add extra text to by typed inside here

The pages inside are made of 140gsm (that’s lovely and thick) recycled cartridge paper that has been made from 100% UK Post consumer waste ( You know, the stuff you chuck in your paper recycling bin)
Energy
The power to type the personalisation on to notebook comes only from my nimble fingers. They are fuelled by tea and biscuits and the rest of my studio is powered by the sun

The covers of my notebooks are made from brilliant materials. Some are made from textile industry waste. Others from a truly innovative coffee cup paper that is cleverly manufactured here in the U.K. in a zero waste closed loop making process.

What happens to my waste?
he offcuts from making these notebooks is used to make other products in my shop such as notecards or wall hangings and the itty bitty trimmings are saved up and given to my friend and glass artist Scarlet of Scarlet Impressions, or a glass company in the next village to me who use them as packing materials.

Pocket Notebook
Similar to A6 in size, these are perfect for keeping in your bag or well…………your pocket of course, to keep your notes handy or to write down those sparks of genius as they pop in to your head.
