Handmade using recycled + eco conscious materials in my Lincolnshire Studio and personalised on my vintage typewriter called Dorothy
Getting the perfect notebook or journal for the job. I make three different sizes for my handmade notebooks. Getting Dorothy typewriter to personalise the largest ones is a challenge but you’re worth it so I have my ways.
Which size is the right one for you today? Here’s a brief guide to why I think each one is brilliant.
Pocket Size Notebooks
Similar to A6 in size, My pocket sized notebook is dead handy for carrying around with you in your er……………pocket. Ready to spring open at a moments notice as inspiration strikes for your next novella or you suddenly remember you need to buy more cat food.
Approx 14 x 10cm and hand stitched with sturdy linen thread in a matching (or sometimes contrasting) colour. This size is also brilliant to give as small gifts for friends or teachers and make brill stocking fillers or wedding favours for your party guests.
My Colour block Pocket size personalised notebooks have been a bestseller for years and were the very first notebook that I sold way back when. Each one is individually personalised on my vintage typewriter Dorothy with your very carefully chosen words.
Planner Sized Notebooks
Similar to A5 in size, My planner sized notebook is the most popular size and is great for planning your week to stay on top of your to do list or to start that book that you were always going to write.
Approx 20 x 14cm and hand stitched with sturdy linen thread in a matching (or sometimes contrasting) colour. This size is the most popular to use as a wellness or mindfulness journal to help organise your thoughts and work through hard things.

Can I use a fountain pen or watercolours in it?
Absolutely - l use fountain paper on this paper every day. it doesn’t feather or bleed. you can use a wide range of artist media too, including marker and brush pens, charcoal, pencil and even a light wash of watercolour ( I wouldn’t soak it)

Each cover is typed on my vintage typewriter, Dorothy, onto handmade cotton rag paper that has been made from recycled t-shirt industry waste. How many words can I have?
The style of these books is better suited to one or two words. So that your text fits nicely above the ribbon - I also space the letters out more than Dorothy’s usual style which takes a little more room but I think it looks great.

How long should the personalised text be?
Your personalised notebook will be typed on a vintage typewriter which means that I can’t change the font size.
I can fit 40 characters per line including spaces. ( I may need to split some of your lines if they are over this but will always do it in a way that makes sense to the flow of the text)
3-4 lines looks great. I can fit more lines on, but it can tend to look cramped especially if they are all full 40 character lines.
If your text is a little long for this size then I also have a larger A4 size available in my shop
If you have a really long message, consider having it typed inside the book instead. you can add extra text to by typed inside here

1-3 lines looks great but this design has a smaller character count than many of my other books because of it’s design.

Decadent Gold edged pages and a flash of gold on a dark inky blue hand painted cover. Filled with Handmade cotton paper and recycled cartridge paper. Can I use a fountain pen or watercolours in it?
Absolutely - l use fountain paper on the cartridge paper every day. it doesn’t feather or bleed. you can use a wide range of artist media too, including marker and brush pens, charcoal, pencil and even a light wash of watercolour ( I wouldn’t soak the cartridge paper pages, but the cotton paper pages are super strong and will take wet media.
Size?
Your notebook will be approx A5 in size at around 20 x 14 cm . with 120 pages made up of 96 pages of 140gsm recycled cartridge paper and 24 pages of Handmade Cotton paper, made from t shirt industry waste.

The cover is thick cotton card that has been made from textile industry waste in a UK paper mill.
The pages inside are made of 140gsm (that’s lovely and thick) recycled cartridge paper that has been made from 100% UK Post consumer waste ( You know, the stuff you chuck in your paper recycling bin) and handmade cotton paper made from t shirt industry waste.

Epic Sized Notebooks
Similar to A4 in size, My Epic sized notebook are seriously big for the biggest plans, copious quantities of notes and the most enormous of brain dumps.
Approx 14 x 10cm and hand stitched with sturdy linen thread in a matching (or sometimes contrasting) colour. This size is also brilliant for students heading off to college or small business owners to really get their teeth in to planning.
